Keeping on top of your finances as a small business owner can be challenging, to say the least. Most people don’t like doing it and either put it off or pass the buck. The good news is that there are a number of powerful apps available online to help you stay on top of things. We all know the general big players like Quickbooks and Freshbooks, but if you’re curious about what else is out there or looking for something different than what you are currently using, here are a handful of the ones available.  There are tons on the market, so leave a comment and tell me your favorite!

SimplyBill

SimplyBill is a web based tool to send and track quotes and invoices. Quotes can easily be converted to invoices which can be emailed to clients or converted to PDFs and mailed. Tax rates (including VAT) can easily be added all of your records can be backed up in the cloud. Xero

Xero is one of the slickest online accounting apps available today. It’s a combination of accounting, billing, banking and invoicing functionality. You’re able to see graphically what your cash flow looks like at any point in time by linking Xero with your bank account to generate your views in real-time. Send invoices to your clients online and they can pay directly from their email. Other features include team collaboration, secure backups and updates, inventory, multiple currency, pay your bills, reports and PC, Mac and mobile compatible. Wave Accounting

At the time of this writing, Wave Accounting is 100% free. One of the fastest growing accounting apps, it is not hard to see why. With Wave, you can connect to your bank account or Paypal and download all of your transactions. Print beautiful reports, and track your expenses. Connect with other Wave apps like Payroll and Invoicing for a complete business solution.

Expensify

“Expense reports that don’t suck.” There are two reasons you may need to consider Expensify. Either you have clients for which you purchase things or travel to complete a few minor tasks (which should be very rare since you work remotely for a reason), or you do a lot of business spending yourself and you need to keep it under control. With Expensify, you photograph receipts and upload them into the system, where they can be matched to credit card transactions or categorized as cash. Incorporated tools allow you to analyse the expenses, track business mileage and more. Their Team plan starts at $5 per user per month and can be synced with Quickbooks and Xero.
